World Ports: Hong Kong, China
Located by the South China Sea, Hong Kong is a deep-water seaport dominated by trade in containerised manufactured products and, to a lesser extent, raw materials and passengers. It is one of the busiest ports in the world.
The Kwai Chung Container Terminals in the western part of the harbour is the main container handling facility, operating around the clock. Some 20.76 million containers (measured in TEUs i.e. 20Ft container loads) were handled by the port in 2017. The average turnaround time for container vessels in Hong Kong is about 10 hours. Approximately 400 container ships serve Hong Kong weekly, connecting to over 500 destinations around the world.
